Couple things come to mind:

-Epic's release of Unreal 3 SDK
-more experimental machinima being made
-TMunderground becoming a major machinima site
-Siggraph including real time filmmaking in it's competition
-Push, Shelf Life, Death in Venice, 9, Clockwork and Intervention are major machinima films (more could be added)
-lots of new faces and enthusiasm for machinima
-Moviestorm moving to subscription service
-Second Life machinima improving and expanding
-iClone 4 release
-Dragon Age Toolset
-MachinExpo 2 a great success

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'm missing a few things as it's morning and I've only gotten through half a cup of coffee.

Hope your new year is excellent!
