48 Hour Machinima Winners Announced

Poked my virtual self into Second Life last night to find 9 really great short machinima pieces made during the 48 hour film project.

Having participated in multiple 48 hour film festivals (surprisingly I never seem to make the machinima one), it was nice to see such great machinima made in that 48 hour time period.

The funny element to the evening was the fact that "Bobby the Baker" was the character that needed to be used in every movie. This made for some damn funny situations. As always, sometimes the required character becomes the main in the movie, and sometimes a supporting role.

Team Clark wrapped up a large parcel of awards with "Ring of False God". Congratulations to all the winners.

Another 48 Hour Movie Project

Helped out on another 48 hour movie project. Interesting compared to last year's project. Some crazy stuff happened which I won't discuss but the team managed to finish everything and get our film in with 7 minutes left.

Hopefully the screening goes well.

48 Hour Aftermath

Our film screened last night at AFI ("MVP"). Unfortunately, the movie was handed in late due to a technical glitch, so we weren't eligible for any awards except the audience appreciation award. Still it was nice to see it on the big screen with a large audience. Ours was the only film to feature kids as actors/directors/writers (with the guiding wisdom of adults of course). Thankfully our genre was Sci-Fi and not Romance or Drama. In total 12 films were shown during our section (out of 100 entrants total?), and some of them were well done and very imaginative (for 48 hours). I think competition will be stiff. The screenings have been going on all week and the winner will be announced shortly after.

After the screening we were told that Visa has come on board as a sponsor, so whoever wins the grand prize finale (across how many cities, I am not yet sure) will win $7500. Nice! This whole project has been and is growing rapidly (check out how the number of entrants is growing over the years since the first one in 2001). If you ever get a chance to participate as either a creator or audience member, definitely do so.

48 Hours - Little Sleep

The 48 hour movie project officially started last night at 7 PM (see previous post). Chaos ensues. Will have more info when my sleep deprivation disappears...say next Wednesday?

Two Little Things

Saw some shorts at the DC FilmFest. Shorts don't get enough love in my opinion. Usually there is some nice experimentation with shorts and ideas you would not normally see. One phenomenal piece was by John Arlotta called Deface. Set in North Kora, it tells a tale of totalitarianism, a family, and rebellion. The cinematography is superb and it is just starting the festival run, so if you get a chance to see it, do so.

I joined a team for the 48 hour film project. Should be a blast.
